A private driver solves movement: hotel pickup, luggage, parking, route order and the trip home. A guide adds interpretation: detailed history, cultural context and walking with you inside the sights. Some bookings combine both jobs. Before paying, look at the selected rate rather than the headline.
| Role | What it normally covers | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Private driver | Vehicle, driving, pickup, parking and route logistics | Language, service area, overtime and luggage |
| Driver-escort | Driving plus practical travel advice and itinerary management | Whether they enter attractions with you |
| Licensed guide | Interpretation, history and guided visits on foot | Whether transport is included separately |
What Asoko Trip’s standard rate means
The standard live products include a private air-conditioned vehicle and an English-speaking driver-escort. The driver can help manage the itinerary and give practical travel advice. Driver-guides and guided tour options are also available through Asoko Trip. Tell the team whether you want guided visits, cultural context or time exploring on foot, and confirm the service and price before booking. A separate guide is included only when stated in your selected rate or quote.
On the Tokyo, Fuji and Kamakura routes, tolls, parking and fuel are included. Meals and admission tickets are usually separate. Overtime, pickup beyond the published area and optional route additions can cost extra. The exact conditions and cancellation policy shown against your selected Bókun rate control the booking.

When the driver is the useful part
- You are travelling with children, older relatives or a wheelchair and need fewer transfers.
- You are changing hotels and want the suitcases to stay with the vehicle.
- Your group fills most of a car or van, so a vehicle price becomes easier to justify.
- The route spans several distant stops, such as Fuji and Hakone or Kamakura and Enoshima.
- You need a hotel pickup and a reliable return time.
Vehicle capacity is about people and bags. A five-seat vehicle does not necessarily take five adults plus five large suitcases comfortably. Use the fleet page and the luggage guide, then send the exact bag count if you are moving hotels.

How the booking route works
- Open the tour page and review the itinerary, duration, pickup area and exclusions.
- Select “Check availability and book” to open that exact Bókun product.
- Choose the number of guests, date, start time and vehicle rate.
- Enter the lead traveller and pickup details.
- Review the total and rate-specific cancellation terms before reaching the Stripe payment step.
Bókun may display an optional second-tour or return-tour checkbox. Leave it unticked when you want only the tour you selected. If the route is unusual, use the custom charter form before paying so the team can confirm the day is possible.
Questions to ask before booking
- Is the price per person or per vehicle?
- Is my pickup address inside the included area?
- How many large suitcases and child seats fit?
- Is this a driver-escort rate or a driver plus licensed guide?
- Which admission fees are separate?
- What happens if the tour runs beyond its published duration?
Common questions
Is an English-speaking private driver in Japan also a tour guide?
Not automatically. Asoko Trip’s standard products include an English-speaking driver-escort who manages the route and offers practical assistance. Driver-guides and guided tour options are also available; ask Asoko Trip to confirm the guiding service and price. A separate licensed guide is included only when the selected rate or quote explicitly says so.
Are Asoko Trip private tours priced per person?
The Tokyo, Mt. Fuji and Kamakura private tours are priced by vehicle. Bókun displays the exact total for the selected date, vehicle and options before payment.
Can luggage stay in the vehicle during a private tour?
Yes, subject to the capacity of the vehicle you book. Tell Asoko Trip the number and size of suitcases before booking so the team can match the group to an appropriate car or van.
Planning update · 2026-10-23
A useful brief for a driver-guide
Tell the team whether you want historical explanation, help interpreting what you see, or simply a flexible journey between places. A driver-guide request should describe the depth of guiding you expect and whether you want accompaniment at attractions. Confirm who provides that service and where it begins and ends.
A vehicle does not remove walking or admission arrangements. Ask whether the guide enters each attraction with you, whether their admission is included and whether the group remains together. These questions make a guided day concrete without assuming every rate offers the same experience.
Compare quotations on the same basis
Put pickup and return areas, booked hours, guest count, luggage, guide service, admissions and overtime beside each quote. Ask for unclear items to be written down. A transport-only price and a guided tour price can look similar while covering different days.
Asoko offers driver-guides and guided tour options on request. Confirm the requested service and price before booking. A separate licensed guide should be treated as included only when the selected rate or final quote explicitly includes one; do not infer a qualification or inclusion from the word private.
